CLOUD FAQ & Troubleshooting

General

Some general questions may arise, when a decides to use SAP Transport Panel. Here are some frequently asked questions:

How does the user mapping work between Jira and SAP?

Each User in Atlassian Jira that should be able to create and interact with transports in SAP ECC or SAP S/4 HANA is mapped to an SAP User with sufficient permissions. If the User name in Atlassian Jira and SAP ECC or SAP S/4 HANA are not the same, you must maintain the mapping in Atlassian Jira.

Direct Human Access

Even though the technical connection beteween Atlassian Jira and SAP ECC or SAP S/4 HANA is set up using technical communication users, every interaction between the systems requires named user account to be logged into both systems.
It is our understanding that this user-based access does not imply any SAP licensing for indirect / digital access. Please consult your SAP sales representative for further information.

Jira Configuration issues

Some questions may arise, when a user tries to configure Jira with SAP Transport Panel functionality. Here are some frequently asked questions:

I can't see the SAP Transport Panel in the issue view.

To see the SAP Transport Panel in your issue view you have to initialize it once by clicking on the app button located under the issue summary.

How can i get the right URL for the SAP connection to a specific system?

The best way to get the SAP URL is to ask the SAP admin. If your SAP admin can not provide the SAL URL and there are no proxies between Jira and SAP, then you can take the following steps in SAP:

  1. Start transaction SMICM
  2. Press the Services button (Shift + F1).
  3. With the protocol http or https you will find the computer name (host) and port.
  4. Then write the base URL for the SAP connection in the SAP Transport Panel configuration in Jira.
    1. Remark: The back part of the URL is always set by SAP Transport Panel. Therefore the base URL for the SAP connection should look like following example https://host:port.

Can I add multiple custom fields for default system?

Technically you can configure many custom fields of one type, but this lead to unexpected behavior and all duplicated custom fields have to be removed by an admin.

Why do I receive an error that no SAP System is selected despite the custom field shows an SAP System?

This unwanted behaviour is caused by creating many custom fields of the same custom field type for the SAP system. A Jira-admin has to remove the duplicated custom fields and make sure that only one custom field is created.

The Jira Automation to transition the issue based on the return code does not work. How can I solve this?

Check if the Actor of the Automation can see the issue, which should be transitioned. Usually the Bot User "Automation for Jira" can see all issues. The Admin Helper

Check the Condition for the Transition in your Workflow. For example to allow the Project Admin and Bot User Automation for Jira to transition the issue, add the Condition Only users in project role and add the Project role Administrators and Atlassian-addons-project-access, which contains the Automation for Jira as user.

E-Mail address is not available for SAP Transport Panel

If your Jira-User is not mapped to an SAP-User, then SAP Transport Panel needs to get access to your e-mail address. To enable that, you have to set the visibility of your e-mail address to "Anyone". Here you can get directly to the settings.

SAP Transport Panel Comments in Jira issues

To be able to provide the user with information, messages are written in comments in the Jira issue, since post functions have no direct connection to the UI.

What does the color of the comments mean, when the Release final transport post function is triggered.

The Release final transport post function writes status messages that are colored based on the return code as comments into the Jira issue.

The Update Issue and Update Transport Status methods don't work?

Please double check that you have carefully followed the setup instructions.

Also in SAP in the RFC Connections Screen go to HTTP Connections settings and edit the entries: You have to go to Special Options Tab and set the Compression Status to Inactive, so SAP will not compress the data.
